I love our Shiba Inu, but cuddle is not in his vocabulary. Pet him yes, he loves it, but don’t even think about picking him up and cuddling him. They are like a cat in the fact that they clean themselves like a cat does.

Do you have any tips for a Shiba Inu puppy that is terrified of being outside? I have a 4 month old Shiba Inu puppy and she is absolutely terrified of being outside. I'm having an incredibly difficult time potty training her because everything scares her when I take her outside. I bring treats with me so when she does do her business I reward her. But most of the time she barely does her business and instead rather messes in her washable dog diaper. I specifically got a dog diaper to keep my apartment clean, NOT for potty training. I try to take her for walks in the neighborhood that is quiet and she absolutely hates it.. I don't know what to do.. please help.. I want to do my best to provide a healthy happy lifestyle for my baby Shiba.

why do puppies cost $1000 to $3000 ?

my shiba inu is 9 weeks. he really like play around me and bite my hand as always, but when the there is stranger, he just lick and behave like gentle man...once i have personal week of work. and had keep on eye my dog. all they said sleep play eat, and there was NO mischievous or bad behave while i was gone.

Once I had a hilarious encounter with a Shiba Inu at a park. She was super confident and definitely not a people pleaser! The owners, however, informed me that I could pet her. She stayed put through petting without showing much care, but flatly refused to leave me when the owners tried to move her away and simply stayed in. They told me laughing that she likes me! Well! Who knew? ;D

In general I think that having a yard is a must for any dog breed.

Adopted my first shiba. He's a 6 yr old rescue from a breeding mill. He is definitely a challenge. I'm going to stick to my guns and keep my rules firm. He's a very smart dog. I would like to hope he will come around eventually.

I have the weirdest shiba resuce. I was expecting a hard to raise dog but hes the sweetest friendliest and most polite dog I've ever meet. He was put up because the older dog was aggressive to him and it wasn't fair to keep him there. The 8 month old shiba is super happy and these videos have been a big help

Our Shiba doesn't care about rain, shine, snow. He must go for a walk two times a day, and very good at reminding us when we delay it. When we say the magic words "let's go" he always comes running. He hates baths, but doesn't mind waking in the rain at all.

It was funny the day my mix Shep Shiba was climbing up one of those gate dividers. I wouldn’t have thought it possible a straight up, no angle. The other time when he first came into our house. One of us sneezed. We were talking then said bless you and our little guy let out a mini howl., besides looking back and forth at us. Now he still howls, barks too. It’s funny when he howls and has the chew bone in his mouth. Mine looks a lot l8ke the one relaxing on that guy’s lap, Jimmy or Jimmie, except his tail isn’t super curled but definitely quite bushy. .

I don’t think I could watch that kind of movie without tears either. Yea, I have to make orders seem like they’re his idea. I can call him back into the house but when he outright ignores me, for him, usually means he has to do a couple more things outside. He enjoys going after that squiggle ball too. I like when he does his howl after waking me up. He’ll pick up the bone and sometimes howl with it in his mouth. Funny. Sometimes sounds like a (muffled?) tuba sound.

My Shiba is incredibly kind to both dogs and cats. He turns 5 in September. He often sits at the gate facing the street and most dogs that pass by always come forward and greet him. The neighbor's cat even jumps over the gate and goes in to him. He is a bit like Ferdinand the bull. Calm and safe.

OMG, I was laughing so much at the first 3 minutes of this vid! I have littermates, a male and a female. My female is the pleaser, super smart, learns tricks and is much more friendly than her brother. My male is EVERYTHING Shiba … wants affection on HIS terms, knows his manners but only when he feels they are necessary (usually for treats), and couldn’t give a rat’s a$$ about being friendly, esp around other dogs. They have been this way since puppyhood and they are now almost 11YO. Both are extremely clean (my female is grooming ME as I watch this vid) and very healthy. And to me, I agree with the “females look softer” comment … I usually see a “delicate”-ness when I see females. Boys usually look a bit more “beefy”. But as you said, everything is in general. 😊

My sweet angel has been having some health issues & when I have 2 give meds she will bite at my hand to “threat” if I try again she flashes her teeth. For example she’s having ear infections I’m struggling to resolve. She won’t allow me to clean her ears, put the medicine in ears, clean her paws. Other than these things she’s the most cuddly angel! How do I keep her from snapping at me?

I'm looking into getting a Shiba in the next year or so, and have been doing extensive research into them. i have mostly had cats, its been about a decade since i've owned a dog, and shibas seem like the best for my lifestyle. I've become a dog groomer, and through my experiences with a great many breeds, i absolutely adore the dramatics and personality of the shiba. your channel has been awesome for information, so thank you!

I dog sitted my friend’s shiba and it’s so true about them being stubborn. Good thing is that he was food motivated. I would give him a treat or small piece of what I was eating and he would let me put on the harness around him.
